Approach (modality)
I follow an Integrative approach which combines techniques and concepts from various counselling modalities to suit the unique needs of each client. Instead of adhering strictly to one theoretical framework, integrative counselling draws on multiple disciplines—such as psychodynamic, humanistic, and cognitive behavioural approaches.

Counselling Sessions

How long is a counselling session?
A typical counselling session is 50 minutes. However, some clients find longer sessions more productive. A move to a double session (90 minutes) may be discussed as the counselling relationship develops.

How many counselling sessions will I need?
Your counselling journey is unique to you, there is no defined timeframe. The nature of what has brought you to counselling, the depth of work required and many other unique aspects will influence the number of sessions. Effective counselling is rare with less than 6 sessions and some individuals attend counselling for years.

Most counselling is weekly but as the therapeutic work develops this may be more or less frequent.

Deciding to start Counselling

Initial meeting
Counselling is highly individual, an approach which works for one person may not for another. The relationship between counsellor and client is as important as the approach and both client and counsellor should be confident that a relationship can be formed. For this reason all counselling ought to begin with an initial short introduction meeting:

During this introduction meeting I will introduce myself and discuss more about how I work and what to expect from counselling. I will ask some high level questions about what has brought you to counselling, your goals and a general overview of what is troubling you.
It is important that you feel comfortable with the counselling being offered and if not don't be worried about not wanting to proceed.

How do I arrange an initial meeting?
Please email info@pathfinder-counselling.co.uk. All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential.

Do you offer couples therapy?

I work with individuals only.

Do you offer counselling to under 18s?

I work with adults (over 18) only.

Location

Park Street, Towcester, NN12 6DQ. Access by appointment only. Full details will be provided with your appointment confirmation.

Be aware the counselling room is located on the first floor and is accessible by stairs only.

Parking
The counselling room is located on a one way street with no parking. However, there is plenty of parking within a short walk. Most parking is free for up to 3 hours. Details of the closest parking will be provided with your appointment confirmation.

Appointments

Consistency is an important element of counselling. A fixed appointment day/time will be agreed during your initial meeting. I aim to offer flexibility where I can to accommodate busy lives, work, family commitments etc.

My normal working hours are:

Tuesday to Friday - 9am to 5pm
Saturday - 9am to 1pm

I also offer evening appointments (Tue-Fri only)
On-line counselling
In-person counselling tends to be more effective due to the stronger connection and engagement it fosters. However, online counseling can be a valuable addition, offering flexibility and convenience as the therapeutic process evolves.

Walk & Talk
Walk and talk is ideal for most clients, it offers a more dynamic alternative to the counselling room.

Walk and talk will follow a route using a local public open space / parkland and although walk based otherwise involves the same integrative counselling approach with some adaptation which will be explained and discussed prior to the session.

Seeking advice for someone else

If you are seeking support for some one else, I am able to provide information about the counselling I offer but it is important that the proactive steps of making that first appointment are made by the person who will be attending. Ownership is a key component of the therapeutic process.
